Each one of these programs is called a Channel. There are Channels that use WiiConnect24 for information distribution, creative Channels that work in conjunction with your games, Channels that make use of the SD Memory Card, and so on. Much as you would choose a TV channel to watch with your TV remote, you can use the Wii Remote to choose from the various Wii Channels. Expect a larger variety of Channels in the future.
The Virtual Console games you have downloaded also appear as a Channel. A list of 12 Channels will be displayed in a 4 by 3 grid when you turn the Wii console ON. You can freely change the order of all the Channels except the Disc Channel, which is always shown in the upper left-hand corner.

Have more fun with your Miis in the Mii Contest Channel! In this new Channel you can post your own Miis or import the Miis of users worlwide into your own Mii Channel. Miis that have been posted by users around the world gather in the Posting Plaza. You can post your own Miis or, if you see a Mii you like, import it into your own Mii Channel. From Today’s Top Miis to the Top 50 most popular Miis of all time, you're sure to see some Miis that you just want to take 'home'!
If you enjoy making Miis and like a good challenge, why not see if you can win a Contest? You can enter a Contest by submitting a Mii created in your Mii Channel, or judge the Contest entries of others - and, of course, view the Contest results!
An Internet connection is required to use this Channel, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Wii Software section of the Wii Shop Channel.

Forget hand-scrawled notes stuck to the fridge door. Users can leave messages for other family members on a calendar-based message board. They also can use WiiConnect24 to send messages to people outside the home as well. The service also allows for incoming messages targeted at software, such as a new map or weapon for a game. Games can constantly be updated, thereby extending their playability.
